With global offices to support a far-reaching vision, Rockwell Group is an interdisciplinary firm that emphasizes innovation and thought leadership in every project. Founded in 1984 by David Rockwell and led by partners Shawn Sullivan and Greg Keffer, they create extraordinary experiences and built environments the world over.
Murray’s Cheese Bar LIC
The Long Island City retail store and restaurant are Murray’s first full-service brick-and-mortar locations independent of its Greenwich Village stores. On the ground floor of a new residential development, with a prime corner storefront, the design of the shop and restaurant were inspired by Murray’s nearby state-of-the-art cheese caves facility and laboratory. For the store, Rockwell Group conceived a warm, clean space with shelving that mimics the cave storage where cheese is aged.
Peak
Peak is situated just above Edge, the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere, at 30 Hudson Yards. Located on the 101st floor, the lounge, restaurant, and event space offer an unparalleled dining experience with breathtaking views. Guests enter the restaurant on the 5th floor, where a cocktail lounge creates an elevated experience with luxurious simplicity and soft lighting. A warm, optimistic, and inviting atmosphere celebrates the tower’s structure and design.
RPM Seafood
RPM Seafood, a multi-level restaurant overlooking Chicago’s Riverwalk, takes inspiration from traditional Italian and French seaside dining. This waterfront project also includes a private events space and Pizzeria Portofino, a Riviera-inspired casual restaurant. RPM Seafood’s prime position on the river informed the design. A soaring opening connects two floors to create an indoor/outdoor feel. Floor-to-ceiling folding glass walls and a series of olive trees and greenery bring the outside in and help define the space.
Oceans New York
On a prime corner near Union Square, Oceans is a locally and globally-inspired seafood restaurant with a timeless and approachable dining experience—an elevated take on a classic New York bistro with a downtown feel. Rockwell’s spatial strategy telescopes the energy from the bar into successively more intimate dining spaces, including three private dining areas and a sushi bar, creating a uniquely flexible restaurant. An undulating wood-rib ceiling, inspired by New York City’s historic archways, frames each discreet but open environment. White oak, whitewashed brick, hammered antique brass, and leather and navy blue accents dominate the luxurious material palette.
CHICA Miami
CHICA Miami, the second collaboration of Chef Lorena Garcia and John Kunkel’s 50 Eggs, Inc., is located in Miami’s MiMo district. Drawing inspiration from the fresh tastes of Chef Garcia’s cuisine, as well as the traditionally open, airy residences and hospitality spaces found throughout Latin America, the restaurant pairs a tropical palette with regional inspirations, evoking the legendary cigar lounges of South America and Miami’s vibrant nightlife. The main dining area features a sophisticated, striking color palette of terra cotta, brass, and rich blues influenced by Latin American culture, textures, and craftsmanship.
Freehold Miami
This unique hospitality, food, and beverage mash-up is reminiscent of a bustling boutique hotel—but without the actual hotel rooms. Rockwell Group designed Freehold’s second location in Miami‘s Wynwood district, which expands the aesthetic DNA from the successful Brooklyn flagship, while taking advantage of the all-season climate to seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor experiences. They focused the design of the interior around three aesthetic attitudes: Hideaway; Explore; and Indulge, mixing vintage, industrial style with Miami’s fresh, Floridian vibrancy.
