Kwantlen Polytechnic University – Trades & Technology Centre
This signature building designed to house Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s high-tech Trades, Technology and Applied Training programs creates a new gateway for this stream of education programs at KPU. Featuring a double-height atrium made of wood and glass accented with translucent colored panels, the main lobby area is illuminated by natural light. Creating a compelling entrance, the entry invites students, staff and visitors to explore interior spaces. Connecting to the outdoors is vital for buildings like this that include large industrial spaces for intensive trades training. This connection is also evident in the indoor “covered street,” which provides visual and physical access to every floor and ensures optimum natural light penetration and ventilation.
Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower
The Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower is located along Huaihai Road—one of two prestigious retail streets in Shanghai. Overlooking the center of the city at People’s Square, this 58-story tower is one of the city’s tallest buildings and holds a prominent position along the urban skyline. At the time, the tower was one of the first to be built with North American design principles in mind and as such, its design was unique in bringing parking into the podium of the building. Featuring a contemporary yet classic aesthetic, it’s designed to stand the test of time.
RTC-6 Turn 10 Studios
With the goal of creating a vivid, highly-animated headquarters for RTC-6 Turn 10 Studios, B+H designed an original space for the gaming creators of Forza Motorsport, reflecting an integration of the latest in design technology and authentic automobile culture. Previously located in a suburban office park, the racing game studio outgrew its physical surroundings and was in need of new space that expressed their creative culture and set the tone for the next generation of racing games, while being flexible enough to allow the team to customize spaces based on the ever-changing product cycle.
The Secret Con Dao Resort
The Secret Con Dao Resort is located in a colonial heritage neighborhood along a tranquil beachfront of Con Dao Island – the most pristine beach destination in Southern Vietnam. Con Dao is an offshore archipelago with a total area of 76 square km where 80% of the land area is the National Park, soon to become a UNESCO reserve area, offering magnificent landscapes. Featuring 196 newly designed guest rooms hotel and a restored 100-year-old villa, the resort bridges a modern version of Vietnamese heritage and culture with the local colonial character. The landscape plan connects guests to the resort’s amenities through a sensitive approach to the site’s pristine ecology by creating a journey through the past and present. Guests can enjoy the activity of the pool, comfy relaxation, and fine dining experiences, all within a stunning tropical setting.
Perch, Food & Beverage at UBC AMS Nest
Perch is a full-service restaurant and lounge located within the new student union building. Drawing inspiration from the architectural Nest located in the atrium — the restaurant, perched atop the building, is providing a reflective look at the surrounding grounds referencing the past, present and future of the university and its students. It is a modern and sophisticated environment geared towards the university and Vancouver’s competitive restaurant culture. Designed with flexibility in mind, the lounge space allows customers to sit and chat with friends or to meet and discuss University business.
Paul & Shark – Hong Kong
Showcasing leading Italian luxury lifestyle brand Paul & Shark, the Asian flagship store in Hong Kong is located on Canton Road Tsim Sha Tsui—an area known for its high-end shopping experience. Bringing renewed glamour to the district, B+H designed both the façade and interiors. To understand the brand better, they visited Paul & Shark stores and workshops in Milan and Varese, Italy to take in their fine craftsmanship and innovative spirit. They also worked closely with their client to completely immerse themselves in the flavor and unique aesthetic of the brand to map its reinvention through newly designed spaces. Taking inspiration from the Milan headquarters, the design of the store combines classic Italian elegance with modern elements including steel, wood, and customized furniture. The thoughtful layout of glass and steel elements along with strategic lighting within the space helps to portray the essence of the Paul & Shark lifestyle to create a unique shopping experience. Every element was considered—from major façade features and interior finishes as detailed as the custom hangers B+H designed.
