The Brazilian duo Humberto and Fernando Campana created a unique sideboard design that features mesmerizing blob-shaped gaps filled with coloured glass. The duo chose the coloured glass to give the illusion of a fish tank. Like Fernando Campana said, “We were inspired by the idea of an aquarium to create this piece”.
Known as the Aquário buffet, this piece can be built from ash or pine wood. The holes are always irregular cuts into the surfaces of the design. The openings are sealed by sections of the glass offering transparency to the sideboard’s interior. “We love to create hybrids using two different materials; a warm one and a cold one,” said Humberto Campana. “It has become part of our design language.”
Transparent shelves are installed behind the foursquare cabinet doors allowing light to go through the piece. “I wanted to play with the idea of opposite weights too; the lightness of the glass and the massiveness of the wood,” Humberto Campana added. “The immaterialness of the first one and the physicalness of the second one.”
The piece is supported by four wooden legs that raise the design. It’s available in two color versions. BD Barcelona Design presented this design at the Salone del Mobile design event in Milan. Along with it pieces by Jaime Hayón, Oscar Tusquets and more designers are also showcased.
